Hellgate Snaps Bozeman's 11-Year Streak In Montana By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor The Missoula Hellgate girls put three runners in the top six Saturday and won the MHSA Class AA cross country championship with 37 points at the University of Montana Golf Course. Running at home, Hellgate was led by Sunset OR transfer Ember Stratton, who took third (18:09.8). Elise Stearns and Ella DeGrandpre took fifth and sixth for the Knights. Bozeman, led by a runner-up finish by Terra Trom, had won the previous 11 state titles. The Hawks were second with 57 points. Billings Senior standout Tiahna Vladic won the individual title in 17:40.7 -- by a margin of 23 seconds. On the boys side, Flathead's Ben Perrin continued his family's legacy by winning the AA title in 15:43.6. His older brothers Zach (2012) and Jake (2015) also won state cross country titles. The Bozeman boys maintained their streak and won for the 11th straight time. The Hawks put four in the top 15 and finished with 65 points. Hardin retained the Class A girls title with 56 points as Beatrix Frissell of Polson defended her individual title in 19:02.6. Columbia Falls won the Class A boys championship with 76 points. Levi Taylor of Laurel ran 16:18.2 for the win. Manhattan swept the Class B titles. The boys edged Glasgow 79-85 and the girls fended off Colstrip 73-91. Hudson Atkinson (16:18.2) of Poplar and Whitney Hanson (19:31.2) of Colstrip were the individual winners. In Class C, freshman Sariah Maughan of Seeley-Swan won the girls race in 19:52.8. West Yellowstone put three girls in the top five to win the team title. Manhattan Christian sophomore Riley Schott led his team to the title with his victory in 16:54.1.
